About Our Boat
OUR CHARTER BOAT Meet 'Seamphony', Joe Farr Fishing Charters' Steber 28 and we believe one of the most comfortable charter boats in Victoria! Her motor is an inboard Yanmar turbo diesel 315 horsepower, conveniently tucked out of the way of fishing rods. She's fast enough to get around Port Phillip Bay if the fish aren't on the chew in a certain spot, big enough to allow everyone to have their own fishing space but she's still small enough to manoeuvre into the tighter fishing spots if necessary. Melbourne’s southern Port Phillip Bay is home to a huge variety of fish species and just so happens to also be home to Joe Farr Fishing Charters! Here are some pics from a recent charter aboard our new girl ‘Seamphony’! Lucky for us (and our clients) she is a fishy boat and clients so far have had good success reeling in the fish! So… it’s been an interesting windy crazy few weeks, with a boat overturned at Portsea on its mooring in the 40 knot winds and another wreck in Port Phillip Heads which has left oil gushing out into our beautiful local fishing grounds at Nepean Bay off the Point Nepean National Park for a few days now. I’m not happy about it… it’s heartbreaking actually… because nothing seems to be being done about it and it’s just bobbing around in there with people venturing into dangerous waters to ‘have a look’ while it gushes out muck into part of our beautiful fishing grounds. I’ve been on the phone to the EPA and it looks like it’s Port of Melbourne jurisdiction to clean up the wreck. I’m calling around to get my facts straight before I go pointing the finger in anyone’s direction. In the meantime oil that burns your nostrils if you’re anywhere nearby is spewing out of this vessel with the swell into Nepean Bay and the waters surrounding Point Nepean National Park.

If you want to see the wreck please do it from land at Point Nepean. The Rip is dangerous. It wrecked in the most treacherous spot in the Rip where, in certain wind/tide/wave conditions, it seems completely calm and then suddenly a wave bigger than your boat appears right next to you and breaks. Check out our video footage of the boat instead (will upload soon).

‘Seamphony’ is a Steber 28 with an inboard Yanmar turbo diesel 315hp motor and all the mod cons. She is a similar size to ‘Flying Fish’ (she’s 8.5m) but is wider. ‘Seamphony’ has has more space for charter style fishing, plus she has a sheltered cabin, an easily accessible airplane style toilet, soft comfortable seating, fresh water, ample bench space and a 10 person liferaft!
I’ve had my eye on this little beauty for a long time now and finally, after waiting for survey certificates, heads endorsements and various other checks I’m happy to say that ‘Seamphony’ is now the OFFICIAL CHARTER BOAT FOR JOE FARR FISHING CHARTERS!

Being a small group fishing charter means that in between baiting hooks, freeing fish, navigating, driving the boat and keeping people’s lines tight with fish I don’t get much time to whip out the camera for photos… but my phone is always on me and every now and then I manage to take a few shots. I didn’t think I had all that many until I’ve gone back through them… and realised that I’ve got a pretty good cross section of the year’s fishing in Port Phillip Bay! Hi guys – we’ve now opened the gates and are taking bookings for the upcoming tuna season around Easter in Portland Victoria. We tested the waters last year and came back with a LOT of delicious bluefin tuna sushi and a lot of stories to tell!

We did really well last year. Being a smaller charter meant everyone on the boat got plenty of fishing time and plenty of bluefin! Everyone that came aboard had an absolute blast. Not only because of the fishing, although the fishing is FANTASTIC.. it’s also about the winding down and getting away from the grind into the ocean to battle some big fish, then hitting the local pub at night to compare stories about the days fishing and have a great laugh with old friends and new friends! Snap snap snapper!
They’re big, they’re red and they’re HERE!
Everybody loooves the snap snaps and punters go crazy for these tough little fish who love to put up a good fight and are super tasty! They took a while to do their thing this year but it’s all happening in Port Phillip Bay particularly early in the mornings if the tides are right and we’ve had a lot of happy clients take a good feed home for family and friends! Nothing like a Christmas BBQ snapper over the summer holidays, particularly if you’re the one that caught it!
